Background:
Lelouch is a very complicated young man who wants nothing more than to create a peaceful world for his sister to live in. But though his intentions are pure enough, he does not think twice about getting his hands dirty in the process, which leaves it's mark more and more over his character as the series progresses. Not to say he does not regret his actions, as in several instances he has, which shows that he is still human even if his actions prove otherwise.
His plans takes his as far as being the 99th Emperor of the Holy Empire of Britannia. No bad, right? Complicated that he is, his plans of reconstructing the world and bringing in peace is a bit drastic, not to say, errr… suicidal.
So after rejecting Kallen’s affection and walking away, he executes his plan by taking his council members hostage. With this act, most of his allies and friends were disgusted with his behavior. Since he is committing a crime, there’s no help but to bring him down. His childhood friend, Suzaku does the deed and this event paves the way for peace. When his friends realized what he did, they all remember him with pride and honor.
